Beer Tastings

Tastings:

Stone, Imperial Russian Stout – Stout – 10% abv
-The Stone Imperial Russian Stout is a dark smooth brew when poured it created hardly any head at all, in fact it poured like oil. The stout is a bit strong and bitter with a good toasty flavor when cold but as it warms it mellows out and the coffee flavor can be enjoyed.

Ommegang, Three Philosophers – Quadruple Belgian Ale Blend – 9.8% abv
-At a respectable 11% APV Ommegang’s Three Philosophers is a great Belgian dark ale. This ale like many of the higher alcohol content brews is very sharp when it is chilled too cold. It is definitely more enjoyable when it has had a chance to settle and breathe. When poured it has a good lacey head that lasts just under 2 minutes with cherry aroma overwhelming the fragrance. On the palette it’s smooth and silky and crisp with a clean spice and alcohol flavor. Overall a great unique fruity quad that does not disappoint.

Urthel Smaranth – Quadrium Ale – 11% abv
-“Urthel Smaranth Quadrium Ale” It’s a great Ale, rich in color and flavor, a bit strong alcohol taste, but it finishes well, smooth with a mild to medium bitterness. It’s flavor is rich and full, and and brings a true fragrance to it’s oakey color. A mini bite of alcohol is then washed away by a smooth flavor ride. Spices soften up the hops and carry you through to the finish.
