Beer Cellar

I have gotten into drinking some artisan beers from around the world. Below is the list of beers that I have currently aging in my cellar.

What makes a beer good to age? Well most say a beer that has a higher alcohol content above 10% abv are good candidates. So thats usually what I go by. Beers unlike wines should be stored standing up. This is actually a highly debated topic, but to me it’s clearly the correct way. But we can discuss that another time.

Now comes the two beer killers, light and heat. A perfect solution to maintain the perfect climate for your stored beer is to designate a dedicated corner of your basement and put some shelves up and store your beer in some boxes on those shelves. Another light solution is a brown paper bottle bag. Refrigerators are not ideal for long term storage because the are designed to remove humidity which could lead to drying out the cork of corked beers. Corked beers are generally best stored in a basement where humidity is generally present.
